Golden Road : The Story of California's Spanish Mission Trail PB

The story of the fabled trail extending from Mexico along the West Coast of California to SanFrancisco Bay, and then further extended through the "Redwood Empire" to the Oregon border. Covering a timespan of four centuries, the way "El Camino Real" as it was then called was used by the Spanish in 1774 to send troops from Mexico to repel an invasion from the Russians in Alaska.
